The collection of sequels to movies from the 1990’s grew on May 1, 2026 when the Devil Wears Prada 2 was released starring much of the original cast. The movie is a continuation of the comedy-drama cult classic which was released in 2006 starring Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci. The first movie goes inside the high-intensity world of fashion. Andy Sacks, played by Anne Hathaway, must navigate her way through the expectations if she wants to achieve her goals of becoming a journalist.
The sequel begins with Andy Sacks, no longer working for Runway, the prestigious fashion magazine, and shows her now being an acclaimed journalist at the opening of the film. The movie follows her return to Runway and the building of friendships within her role at the magazine.
Emily Charlton, played by Emily Blunt, continues to show her fashion-forward, diva personality in the second movie, however she became greedy when her boyfriend offered to buy her a company and make her the new editor and chief. That twist added some tension between characters, which brought Andy Sacks and Miranda Priestley closer together in the end.
We both thoroughly enjoyed how the movie stayed true to the style and themes of the original movie, while also incorporating modern elements that made it feel relevant to today’s audience. One example was the inclusion of artificial intelligence and its growing influence in the workforce. The film showed how advances and technology can create uncertainty for employees who worry about being replaced by machines. This reflects concerns in the real world where AI is becoming more common in many industries and is changing the way people work. By implementing this issue in the movie it added depth to the story and made it more relatable for modern viewers. We thought this blend of classic characters in contemporary challenges helped the film appeal to both longtime fans and new audiences.
The film also included appearances from many celebrities which brought today’s pop culture into the film creating an immersive experience between social media and the characters. Included in the star studded cast was Lady Gaga who collaborated with Doechii on an original song for the motion picture titled RUNWAY. All of the primary artists on the soundtrack are women which added to the overall female strength presented in the movie.
This movie is among many long-awaited sequels that are being released this year and we thoroughly enjoyed it as a modern take on a classic movie plot. The Devil Wears Prada 2 should definitely be added to your watch list whether you’re looking for a movie to watch while it rains or something to enjoy on a travel day this summer.
