Starbucks releases a new seasonal menu every spring, and with each one there comes the same challenge: figuring out what is actually worth ordering. To answer that question for our LS community, we tried every drink to let you know which ones are worth your time. This year, the lineup arrived in two waves, with coconut and ube flavors leading in March and mango flavors following in April. Here is where each drink landed on our ranking.
- The Pink Cannon Ball Drink, the coconut milk version of the Cannon Ball Drink that launched earlier this season as a collaboration with Mr. Beast. We found it to be the strongest offering on the menu. For those who find most refreshers too sharp or too sweet, the coconut milk balances the flavors well.
- The Lavender Matcha is the most debated drink of the season, and for good reason. Lavender and matcha are not an intuitive pairing, and it will not be everyone’s favorite. But for the right drinker, the pair does something unlike almost any other drink on the menu: each of the flavors better the other. We believe the combination enhances each other, bringing it to the top of our ranking for this season’s drinks.
- The Iced Mango Cream Chai was the most surprising drink of the spring. What makes this drink so addictive is how the mango cold foam softens the spice in a way that feels purposeful. Chai drinkers looking for something appropriate with the warmer weather will absolutely find it here.
- The Mango Dream, a Mango Strawberry Refresher prepared with coconut milk, is the most approachable drink of the mango wave. The coconut milk is sweet in a way that the standard refresher is not. It is an easy order, perfect for the start of spring that will get you looking forward to the summer from the first sip.
- The Mango Strawberry Lemonade Refresher delivers exactly what it promises. The lemonade adds a sour layer that keeps the drink from becoming overwhelmingly sweet. It is a reliable choice for anyone who already knows what they like. For regular Strawberry Acai drinkers, we believe this might be a great choice for you.
- The Mango Strawberry Energy Refresher is not the most exciting drink on this list, but it may be the most practical. At 125mg of caffeine per grande, it offers an alternative to people who don’t drink coffee without sacrificing flavor.
- The Toasted Coconut Cream Cold Brew is the least discussed drink of the season. It is simply a well-made cold brew with a subtle seasonal addition. For cold brew regulars who want a slight change of pace, it is the right choice. The coconut adds a fun burst of flavor that makes it pleasantly different from a regular cold brew.
- The Iced Ube Coconut Latte covers familiar ground without standing out too much. It is a reasonable part of the ube and coconut flavor profile, but next to the other drinks on this menu, it does not leave much of an impression.
- The Iced Mango Cream Matcha is a contentious item on the menu. The mango cold foam is too present in the first few sips, but it recedes quickly, leaving a drink that tastes largely like standard matcha. While it is not a drink that causes excitement at the first sip, it is still a basic and solid choice.
- The Iced Ube Coconut Macchiato is the most visually impressive drink of the season. The purple cold foam is striking, and it has been one of the most photographed items on the menu since it launched. The flavor, however, does not quite match the presentation. It is a good drink that benefits significantly from the way it looks. We did not enjoy the polarizing flavor of the bitter caffeine paired with the obnoxiously sweet cold foam.
One detail worth noting before the season ends: the mango syrup, cold foam, and Refreshers are all joining the permanent menu. The rest of the lineup is available for a limited time. For anyone planning to work through the list, the Iced Mango Cream Chai is the one most worth prioritizing before it goes.
