Since LS does not have a homecoming, prom is a highly anticipated event for juniors and seniors. Students wait a long time for prom, so everyone wants the night to go perfectly. In order to make this happen, students create a Facebook page to ensure that no woman will wear the same dress as another. This tradition started many years ago, and students are encouraged to post a picture and a short description of their dress to confirm that no other student will have the same dress from the same store. This Facebook page has alleviated lots of stress surrounding prom dresses, as everyone wants to wear their own unique piece that no one else will have.
There have been many misunderstandings surrounding the differences between the senior and junior prom this year. For the senior prom, students wanted a more unifying event to celebrate the LS class of 2026 only. On the other hand, students in class of 2027 are allowed to invite anyone from all grades within LS, and any guests from other schools, so long as they provide an outside guest form. As for the venue of the class of 2027 prom, the event will be held at Mechanics Hall in Worcester, MA, and it is a space designed for large events like prom. It is known for its highly luxurious and heritage feel, making it an ideal venue for many recent concerts and nights of celebration.
As for ways you can help, Mr. Elenbaas (leader of the class of ‘27 Steering Committee) recommends joining the Steering Committee – it meets in A414 during ACA. They welcome anyone as they are finalizing prom planning, so you still have time to share your opinions in these last few months before prom comes around. In these meetings, they also discuss other important topics like the “Class of ‘27 Senior” t-shirts, and the senior breakfast that is provided during senior week. If this club is something that sounds interesting to you, talk to Mrs. Mahoney or Mr. Akoury about joining!
