One thing that almost everyone can agree on about this election is that it is one of the most important in a while. The soul of the nation is on the ballot. Joe Biden, if elected president, will make choices out of hope and the idea of a greater tomorrow, not out of greed or distrust. Joe Biden believes in all Americans, from a hot dog vendor in Lower Manhattan to a bartender in Cheyenne. Joe Biden cares about all Americans the same. As he says “If I get elected, I’m running as a proud Democrat, but I’m going to be an American president. I don’t see red states and blue states. What I see is American, United States.” Joe Biden seeks to create a more perfect union.

President Trump is the divider in chief, and he knows that a nation divided is much easier to control and dominate versus one that is united. But we are the United States of America. A mighty continental Republic that has grown from a group of 13 messy British colonies. Americans drove westward across this great continent blind with ambitions. We became a house divided, a nation split over the idea of who had a right to freedom. Brother fought brother, and American blood spilled on American soil. But freedom prevailed and freedom was granted to those who previously had not had it. America has come a long way but if we continue on this current path of hate and division, America won’t be what the Founding Fathers envisioned it to be. The role of our government and its leaders is to create a more perfect union, and this is something that President Trump has failed to achieve. He has torn and strained the fabric of our nation.

There are a million other reasons why we choose to endorse Vice President Biden and there are a tens of thousands of reasons why we could have endorsed President Trump. But in the end it comes down to human decency, kindness, leadership, ability to relate to the average American, and this is something that Biden checks all the boxes on. That is why Riya Misra and I, as the Opinion Editorial Board, endorse Joe Biden for President of the United States and Kamala Harris for Vice President.
