Many seniors search for advice about their college before starting their fall semester, whether it be through social media or friends. At LS, seniors are able to learn about their college from staff members who attended that same college. Mr. Guanci graduated from Boston College (BC) and now works in the English department here at LS. Rachel Goldman is starting at BC next fall and is excited to hear about the BC experience.
When speaking with Mr. Guanci, he emphasized the importance of flexibility during the first because he switched his majors. It is helpful to be open to the different possibilities as they present themselves. Rachel is going in as a communications major and may be interested in public relations or sports-related work. She jokingly said that she got her start at the Forum.
Mr. Guanci offered advice for picking activities in college, “find something that you are good at, where you can meet friends. It is good to get outside of your dorm.” Rachel plans to follow BC sports, focus on academics, and make new friends. Specifically, she is interested in joining club swimming and becoming a member of the BC social fellows– a club that runs BC social media accounts. Rachel also intends on joining The Heights, the school newspaper.
BC focuses on helping the community and offers many service opportunities to their students. Mr. Guanci learned in his Buddhism class at BC that “if you want to live a good life, you have to try to help other people.” As the seniors get ready to graduate it is helpful to seek out people who went to their college to learn about their experiences and look forward to their first year of college.
