If somebody were to visit Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School on November 1st, they would be met with a startling sight. Walking through the A-B connector, they would be greeted by mad scientists, the Lorax, and characters from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Those in costume are the spirited seniors partaking in “Senior Dress Up Day”, a tradition that students and faculty look forward to all year long at L-S. According to senior Emma Raniere, Senior Dress Up Day is “a day where you can just be a kid again.” This year’s festivities may have been the best yet:
Interviewed seniors Max Troiano, Kylie McGeady, Justin Miller, Emma Raniere, and Zoe Borden gave their favorite costumes, including The Shining Twins, Little Bo Peep, Spiderman, and Mr. Potato Head. However, the one costume they unanimously placed above all the rest was the Christmas Tree worn by Sam Rosenbaum. Justin Miller enjoyed how “[the costume was] poking fun at the November 1st tradition of listening to nothing but Christmas music from that point forward.” It was a great costume that many people enjoyed seeing and hearing. Sam Rosenbaum blasted Christmas music throughout the day, and the faint echoes of Mariah Carey cheerfully lingered throughout the hallways, putting smiles on the faces of countless students.
Another standout was the Lorax. Sighting a bald, neon orange figure decorated with a giant white mustache while on your way to first period immediately brightens what would have been a mundane school day. Amongst the sea of exhausted students recovering from Halloween the night before, the Lorax was a beacon of light that represented how meaningful the day was to students of L-S. Senior or underclassman, participant or viewer, SDUD is something that brings the entire school together.
As most L-S students surely remember, the five skits went spectacularly! The Barden Bellas kicked off the skits by performing an iconic acapella routine from hit movie “Pitch Perfect.” Their perfectly coordinated performance included choreo from the film, as well as some impressive acrobatics. The act was certainly a crowd-pleaser for good reason! Following the Bellas were Sesame Street characters, introduced to Drake’s “In My Feelings”, which then segued into a hilarious boxing sequence set to the famous tune from the movie “Rocky.” Finally, the skit peaked during a sensational dancing routine set to Mackenzie Ziegler’s “Teamwork”, which even showcased one member doing the worm. Next, seniors dressed as spies entered holding bananas, then quickly pivoted into a choreography to a mashup featuring Beyoncé’s “Run the World (Girls).” Then came the Minions. The Minions acted out a summary of the “Despicable Me” franchise, referencing Gru’s schemes to steal the moon while Liam Curley (dressed as a moon) was lifted and spun. Suddenly, Tommy Kinzfogl, dressed as Vector, began lip-syncing, and the skit picked back up before receiving a roaring applause. The afternoon was not over yet, though! Would it really have been SDUD 2023 without a Barbie skit? Mason Parker, dressed as Ken, was wheeled out in a bright pink box while welcoming a stream of Barbies from the blockbuster movie. With a dance set to a blend of Dua Lipa’s “Dance the Night” and Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice’s “Barbie World”, the epic performance left students debating their favorite skits of the day.
Many enjoyed the Barden Bellas, as it was clear how much effort went into every aspect of the skit. From the costumes to the choreography, the routine was flawless. Another favorite was the Minions. The skit was a total crowd-pleaser, with the humor of the act being extremely well-performed and just over-the-top enough to make it absolutely hilarious. Overall, every single skit and person who performed this Senior Dress Up Day did a fantastic job, and according to many staff members and students, 2023 was one of the best years yet! Thank you to everyone who helped organize and support the day, and shoutout to all of the seniors for showing up and dressing to impress.
