Girls Basketball Hits Peak Performance

L-S Girls Basketball Looks To Make a Run in the State Tournament

L-S girls basketball has had a longtime goal of becoming a signature program in L-S sports. Since the 2007 season when they won the state tournament, the program has not been as successful as they hoped. However, this 2021-22 team has had a statement year for the program and is looking to continue its success in the state tournament.

The team started off the year incredibly strong going 6-0 in the first few weeks of the season knocking off Concord-Carlisle, Cambridge, Newton South, Waltham, Wayland, and Weston. This was the first time in years since the team had a start to the season this strong. After winning six straight games the L-S girl’s basketball team was at an all-time high.

When their 7th game rolled around, they were to take on Newton South for a second time at home. After a hard-fought game, they ended up losing 44-47, this being the first loss in their three-game losing streak. This stretch of games was the hardest of the season and presented the team with real adversity. Their next game was away against North Andover who was a highly ranked team and L-S knew they would have to work extremely hard to pull off a win. Instead of folding under pressure, they persevered as a team and knocked off North Andover 36-33. It was a turning point for the L-S Girls Basketball Team, getting them out of their losing streak and proving to themselves that they were capable of winning tough games that came down to the last few possessions.

The team finished out the regular season 14-5 after beating Lexington 61-52 in double overtime and placing third in the DCL. The team’s success this season is clearly a testimony to the hard work that was put in by the coaches and players of this program, and this year the team is determined to keep building on their success after earning a spot in the state tournament for the first time in four years!

With the leadership of senior Teagan Brown, the incoming talent of Evie Schwartz, and a wealth of ability in between, this 2021-22 team has made their mark this year and is looking to establish the L-S Girls Basketball team next year and beyond.
