Lincoln Sudbury walks as a unit to take the field at Wayland Highschool

After watching a game, when talking about it, fans tend to say, “That was a good game!” For us LS fans this rivalry game was a good game because it was an absolute annihilation.

The LS Warriors faced our rivals the Wayland Warriors on Friday night. This big game was highly anticipated by both towns as Wayland was calling it “The Game”. But for us this game wasn’t only about us beating our rivals, it was about getting revenge.

Last time LS played Wayland we were on the losing side of the battle. On October 26th, 2019 Wayland trampled over LS in a 45-8 victory. Therefore throughout the week our seniors and head coach Jim Girard made sure to remind the team what happened last time so that it wouldn’t happen again. And it didn’t.

To begin the game LS came out firing with a 58 yard touchdown from quarterback Riley O’Connell to wide receiver Jack Napier. O’Connell had LS starting out scorching hot, as he ended the half with four total touchdowns, two of which were caught by Napier. LS’s defense was also lights out as Wayland could not move the ball whatsoever. This resulted in a 42-0 lead going into halftime.

In a slower second half LS’s offense only scored a singular touchdown on a 62 yard run by sophomore Darius Braithwaite. However the defense still held their own, limiting Wayland to only 14 points in the half, giving LS a 49-14 victory.

LS ended the game with north of 400 yards total offense, led by Riley O’Connell, who completed 10 of his 11 throws for  185 yards and 4 total touchdowns. In addition wide receivers Nolan O’Brien and Jack Napier also contributed to the performance. Nolan O’Brien ended the game with 4 catches for 75 yards, and a touchdown. Napier ended with 4 catches for 106 yards and 2 touchdowns. It took almost two years for the chance to redeem themselves, but LS proved revenge is a dish best served cold.

This big win now puts LS at 6 wins and 0 losses, and moves us a few games closer to being back at Gillete. Now, it’s onto Waltham!
