“Did you hear?” Whispers spread down LS hallways like wildfire as students share the newly announced and highly anticipated Boston Calling music festival. This event takes place from May 23 to May 25, and the performing artists this year include country singers Luke Combs, Megan Moroney, and Max McKnown. In addition to those, other featured artists include Vampire Weekend, Fall Out Boy, and Avril Lavigne. Boston Calling has also announced it will have some changes for the 2025 event, including combining the Red and Green stages into a single rotating stage due to safety concerns. Boston Calling will return indoors this year, which many are happy about due to the high temperatures in increasing summer heat.
This year’s lineup has received mixed reactions. While many love it and think it holds some of their favorite artists, others complain that aside from the headliners, the artists are very niche and not for everyone’s taste. In an interview, one person claimed the lineup was “different from other years…but perfect for [her].” She said that she was looking forward to seeing Megan Moroney and Luke Combs, and had no issues with any of the performing artists. Another person we interviewed shared that the lineup was too niche for her compared to the other years, stating that “a lot of [her] friends who consistently go to Boston Calling, aren’t planning to go this year.” That is because aside from the main headliners, none of the other performers are ones she and her friends are big fans of. After interviewing a third person who went to Boston Calling last year, we discovered that the festival is not at all what it seems. The person said it got so congested and chaotic that it caused some people at the festival to faint, especially with the high crowd volumes during the more well-known artists, like Chappell Roan and Hozier. Although this year’s Boston Calling is more niche, we believe it will be able to provide a more unique experience.
