Do you remember as a middle-schooler walking to the Sudbury Plaza on half-day Wednesdays after school? It isn’t uncommon for many LS students to reminisce on their long and strenuous walk to get lunch and make a pit stop at Learning Express to hang out with their friends. This beloved landmark that was a part of many Sudbury kids’ childhoods is now closed. Instead of feeling sad about the closing, we can view this as an opportunity to embrace new ideas about what Sudbury should put there to best utilize this new open space.
One idea of something to replace Learning Express with is a frozen yogurt shop. LS Junior, Anna Trevisan, says, “I think that if we put a frozen yogurt place that could be good [because] we don’t have that in Sudbury.” A frozen yogurt shop would be a great hangout spot, which would attract people of all ages, especially high school students who can drive. There used to be a frozen yogurt shop in Sudbury, but back then it never got much business as it wasn’t as popular for Curtis students to walk there. In addition, the closest frozen yogurt place from LS is in Lexington, which can be a haul to drive there for some students.
Not only does Sudbury lack a fro-yo shop, but also fun activities that people can do in their free time. LS Junior, Kiera Trainor, says, “Sudbury isn’t one of those places that appeals to bordeness of teenagers. There needs to be some activities.” She suggests a place like Color Me Mine—a paint ceramics chain—would be a great addition, providing an activity that is both interactive, social, and in general, fun!
Something we don’t need in Sudbury is more banks. There are already a lot of banks located on Boston Post Road and yet another one is currently being built in the Sudbury Plaza, taking up vital parking spaces and somewhat causing a parking problem. With that in mind, something like a Frozen Yogurt or Ceramics place would be a much more popular and fun location than something like a bank. What do you think belongs in the now vacant Learning Express?
