We at the Jewish Student Union stand firm in our support of Holocaust education, as we see it as one of the most important pillars in preventing modern antisemitism. Over the last year, broad waves of antisemitism have swept our world and nation, with an especially historic rise in hateful incidents here in Massachusetts.
With the recent antisemitic matter at a Community Ties event, and with those that have come before at LS, antisemitism is perhaps more personal and relevant than ever here at LS.
Yom HaShoah (יום הזיכרון לשואה ולגבורה ), Holocaust Remembrance Day, begins on Wednesday, April 23. We celebrate this day to honor the lives and memory of the six million Jews who were subjugated, abused, and murdered during the Holocaust, along with the other millions of victims of Nazi persecution.
By confronting this tragedy and memorializing Holocaust victims, we remind ourselves of the atrocities humanity allowed, and the resilience of the Jewish people. Yom HaShoah is a reminder to never forget.
We at the JSU remain steadfast in our pursuit of being a welcoming space for all students, and an organization which transforms discrimination into action by educating others. Our commitment to turning hurt into positive change is a strength we share with the broader Jewish community, and an adaptation we owe to the victims and survivors of the Holocaust.
This Yom HaShoah, the JSU extends our deepest empathy to our community and are looking to cement the importance of Holocaust education.
JSU will be hosting our Annual Hamentashen Baking event on March 12 in celebration of Purim, where the proceeds of each $2 admissions ticket will be donated to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Any and all are welcome to this delicious event!
We suggest visiting the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance, and the Museum of Jewish Heritage websites for more information regarding Holocaust education.
