Often overlooked during the Valentine’s season are the married teachers at LS, like the Mazzas and the Gammons. Mrs. Mazza is the head of the wellness department and Mr. Mazza is a science teacher. The two had gone to school together since they were in high school, and after teaching in separate places for 10 years, Mr. Mazza joined his wife at LS!
Since they work on opposite sides of the building, they don’t really get to see each other during the school day. But when they do, Mr. Mazza says that their lively interaction, “gives our students and coworkers a glimpse into our personal lives.” Working together makes their marriage unique because they can swap stories about each other with students they have in common. Mrs. Mazza thinks “it’s fun to hear stories about him from the student’s perspective,” although her husband isn’t as amused when his students repeat the slightly embarrassing stories that she tells about him. Still, they agree that they have created a great work/home life balance.
Mr. and Mrs. Gammons aren’t able to see each other during the school day either, but they love to attend school events together, like sports games and concerts. Mr. Gammons teaches LS’s backcountry travel class, so each year they go on the end-of-class camping trip together, which Mrs. Gammons calls “a unique experience.” Working at the same school definitely opens up some fun doors for married teachers!
