Since September 13th, the cast and crew of the LSB Players’ new musical production Mamma Mia! have been working feverishly to create a high-quality show. To put on a good show, members embrace the rewarding yet demanding aspects of the work. There is a lot to memorize and learn, but working alongside the welcoming cast, making new friends, and learning from a talented group of individuals makes the show more than worth it.
Josh Sajan (junior) is a first-year member of the LSB Players. Josh is part of the ensemble, which is in approximately 40% of the scenes. While having no speaking roles, the ensemble is tasked with bringing energy to the show through performing songs and complex dance numbers. Josh is especially excited about two parts of the show: the “Money, Money, Money” number, and the post-bows encore. “There’s an encore at the end of ‘Mamma Mia!’ that people should stay for because it’s a very fun part of the show,” he shares, highlighting it as his favorite moment because it brings the entire cast together to celebrate with the audience.
Camille Gammack (junior) has been a part of the stage crew for every production over the last three years. She believes Mamma Mia! is special because it “is better known than some of the previous performances,” which has drawn more people’s interest, further expanding the excitement this musical brings. One of her favorite parts is that the set this year is significantly larger than any she has been part of before, meaning everyone in the crew–whether costumes, running, props, or another–plays a vital part in the production. Everyone has different expectations assigned to them; Camille, as assistant stage manager, has an expansive amount of responsibilities, but still finds that “rehearsals are a lot of fun, even though they are a large time commitment.” It all balances out due to the strong connections and banter found between all members of the production, including Carly.
Both Josh and Camille credit much of the production’s success to their director, Ms. Evans—known affectionately as Carly. Camille describes Carly as a supportive and motivating presence; “she brings joy and fun to rehearsals while also having high expectations and ensuring we achieve them,” says Camille. Carly’s guidance has helped make Mamma Mia! a truly memorable experience for everyone involved.
Make sure to come see Mamma Mia! November 20 to 23, all shows at 7 pm!
