There are many acting opportunities at LS; students can audition for the fall production, the winter one acts, as well as the upperclassmen and underclassmen productions in the spring. The fall production has actors from all four grades, though the leads tend to go to upperclassmen. Achieving a larger role in the fall production is not impossible for underclassmen; however, the roles are usually filled by students who have showcased their abilities for a longer period of time and demonstrated their dedication to the LSB Players.
The winter one acts are smaller performances put together by the seniors. During their junior year, seniors come together and decide on a couple one-act plays they would like to perform, then two to three of those are chosen. The students get the chance to step into the shoes of a director and help their fellow actors put on a great show. There are two productions in the spring: one for underclassmen and one for upperclassmen. This gives Ms. Evans, the director and producer of all LSB performances, a chance to mentor all the LS actors, creating a strong connection with the students through these smaller plays.
Spring productions also act as a happy goodbye for the seniors, as they are showcased one last time before graduating. In order to learn more about these productions, students are encouraged to join the Google Classroom. To join the classroom, the QR code can be found on posters near the auditorium. According to Ms. Evans, “preparation is the most important thing, and if you really want to do your best work you’ll prepare ahead of time.” Walk-in auditions are always welcome, but reviewing the scripts always helps. During auditions, talent is not the only deciding factor; Ms. Evans is always looking out for kindness and a positive attitude. The best part of the LSB players is the community, and Ms. Evans intends on keeping it that way.
