Senior Dress Up Day (SDUD) is a long-standing LS tradition where seniors perform dances in Halloween costumes for an audience of juniors and seniors in the gym. Meanwhile, underclassmen watch from a projector in the auditorium, missing the full experience. Reflecting on this as an underclassman last year, I enjoyed the performances but felt disconnected. Junior Lila Gwinn shares, “I think it would’ve been more impactful if there had been a school-wide voting last year because I could’ve gotten more involved in the day.”
This year, with the help of the 2025 steering committee, we had a school-wide voting to allow the underclassmen to participate in this tradition and build a stronger school community. The voting involved submitting each costume group under categories such as: Best Group, Best Duo, Most Creative, Best Solo Costume, Most Original Individual, Funniest, as well as the Best Staff Costume. A Google Form was shared with the student body, and voting took place to reveal the winners. This new and improved take on Senior Dress Up Day allows all students to take part in the event.
Another addition to SDUD this year was a parade before ACA, which included the freshman and sophomore classes, who got to watch all of the costumes in a parade leading up to the performances. These new changes make SDUD a more fun experience for underclassmen and for the seniors, who now have a costume contest and a parade!
