By popular demand, the Forum has decided to touch on a challenging subject, a subject many, and let’s just say MANY, have an opinion on: Is Taylor Swift changing for the better, or for the worse? Swift has gone through some dramatic shifts in the past couple of years, thus bringing some commotion in her life and definitely bringing the drama. With her very public announcement of her new boo, the announcement of her album “The Tortured Poets Department”, and her seemingly new confident persona, many have been questioning their support of her. This controversy has caught my attention and I am ready to talk about it. Here are my thoughts:
Travis and Taylor, or so called Traylor, is the hot new couple on the streets, being the year’s most surprising couple to form in my opinion. Travis Kelce, brother to Jason Kelce, is number 87 on the Chiefs. Along with being a football extraordinaire and an essential player on their team, he prides himself on being a funcle and family guy. Taylor Swift, the beloved singer/songwriter/storyteller, is a passionate woman who has left countless individuals in awe, touching the hearts and minds of young and old alike. Because the relationship between the two left numerous folks stunned, they have caused quite a stir in the media and created a battle-like exchange between individuals who are ready to discuss. On one hand, there are many members who support her relationship, ready for a new man to treat her well and connect with her. Many say that he is the right guy, a unique person who understands her popularity (as he himself is quite famous) and will respect her and her fanbase. However, many have continued to argue their disgust towards this affair, saying that she is a distraction at every game they play. Some even go as far to say that Swifties are using him to draw attention away from her private jet and its hefty carbon emissions. Clearly, Swift has received an immense amount of backlash and support, making this couple a prevalent topic in today’s world of pop culture.
On top of this controversy regarding her new companion, attention has overwhelmed the release of Swift’s new album, “The Tortured Poets Department”. It all started with the 2024 Grammys, so let us travel back in time… The night was February 4th, and serious suspense had flooded every comment section on Tiktok, Instagram, and even Facebook. Questions like, “Who is going to win Artist of the Year?” were always part of everyday conversation, however, the most surprising question was, “Is Taylor Swift going to announce Reputation Taylor’s Version if she wins Best Album of The Year?” Because of her infamous “easter eggs” and the subtle changing of her profile picture to an all black and white image, many believed it was a signal that the announcement would be coming shortly. BUT NO, some would say better yet, (others would say much worse) the release of a new album. This announcement upset those who were hoping for a different ending, but some individuals are excited to hear songs written about Swift’s most-recent ex, Joe Alwyn.
With everything going on in her life, it is clear that Swift and the feelings toward her are changing. But, not all change is bad change, sometimes humans experience change that will lead them in a different path or direction of life. As her relationship became more and more serious, we saw much more time of hers spent in Kansas City at Kelce’s games and much more time spent comfortably in the public eye. Currently Swift is on tour in Asia for her famous Era’s Tour, a successful compilation of her best and most favorite songs, a concert that many have dreamed of attending. But, Swift is getting older, and it is clear with this newer personality of hers that she is wanting to live life to the fullest. Yes, she might be shifting away from her old, timid self, but she is growing up and growing up calls for change. So all in all, I believe that Taylor is definitely becoming a new girl, a new and improved girl.
